Sean Alkire - Head Coach

Coach Alkire has coached in the state of Maryland for 7 years and is entering his third season at Howard. In 2000, he was named the PG County Coach of the Year after leading DuVal to the county title in the 1A/2A/3A division. In two years, the Howard wrestling program increased their team wins from 6 to 14. Last season, the wrestling team sent 13 wrestlers to the regional tournament and 5 to the state tournament.

A native of West Virginia, Coach Alkire grew up with the sport of wrestling. His father was a head wrestling and head football coach for over 30 years. Coach Alkire possesses a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education/Teacher Education from West Virginia University. He has taught physical education in Maryland for 9 years and currently teaches at Bryant Woods Elementary in Columbia. Coach Alkire also possesses a Master's degree in School Administration.

In 1998, Coach Alkire moved to Ellicott City after marrying his wife, Alana (Centennial graduate). He and his wife have two children and are both employed by the Howard County Public School System. Coach Alkire is also the jv head football coach at Howard.

Rodney Baxter - JV Coach

Coach Baxter enters his third season on the Howard wrestling staff. A graduate of Atholton HS, Coach Baxter has been involved in wrestling for many years. He started his career in wrestling at age 6. During the 2005-06 season, he served as a volunteer assistant and enters his second season as the jv head coach.

Coach Baxter is a realtor for Re/Max Advantage in Columbia. He has lived in Howard County for the past eighteen years. Coach Baxter's wife, Missie, is also an HCPSS employee. They have three children.

Greg Bulger - Assistant Coach

Coach Bulger is in his third year as Howard's assistant wrestling coach. He has been around the sport nearly his entire life. He wrestled in junior and senior high school in Ocean Township NJ. For the past several years, Coach Bulger has worked with Howard County and the MPSSAA running their post season tournaments.

As a Media Specialist at Howard HS, Coach Bulger works with students and faculty to help integrate computer technology into the curriculum. Coach Bulger is also the head coach for boy's lacrosse and freshmand volleyball caoch at Howard HS.

Coach Bulger has lived in Ellicott City for nearly 20 years. He is the father of 5 children who all currently attend or have graduated from the Howard County Public School System.

Dave Smith - Assistant Coach

Coach Smith enters his second season as an assistant wrestling coach. He was a graduate and wrestler for Howard. Coach Smith also coaches jv lacrosse and jv football at Howard.

Coach Smith's son, Aaron, is a member of the lacrosse and wrestling teams. He works in the print shop as an employee for the Howard County school system. His wife Jeanette, is a 4th grade teacher at Bryant Woods Elementary for the Howard County school system.

A man can be as great as he wants to be. If you believe in yourself and have the courage, the determination, the dedication, the competitive drive and if you are willing to sacrifice the little things in life and pay the price for the things that are worthwhile, it can be done.
